How do you pronounce the Yiddish words
?If you don't know what Yiddish sounds like...we've put up over 30 minutes of VOICE CLIPS on our website, so you can listen to a real Yiddish-speaker reading exerpts from the book!
If you're reading along, it won't take long before you've mastered our simple, natural spelling system. Just make sure to observe how we represent the diphthongs "ey" and "ay". In this book, we use "ay" for words like mayn (sounds like "mine"), and "ey" for words like zey (rhymes with "they"). This agrees with the usage of virtually all academic authorities. Similarly, we use "kh" rather than "ch" for the sound of khutzpah and khannukah.
