YIDDISH GRAMMAR

These tables give the basic forms of Yiddish grammar. Note the various froms of the verb "to be", present and past. The "simple past" of English is not used in Yiddish; instead the past perfect is used. Note also, that whereas in English, the auxilliary "to have" is always used in the past perfect, in Yiddish, the auxillary may be "to have" (e.g. ikh hob gegessen") or "to be" (e.g. ikh bin krank geveyn).
